Passkey Login
Sign in to UptimeObserver with your fingerprint, face, device PIN, or security key instead of typing a password. A passkey is an alternative to password login, not a second step.
You can still use your email and password after adding a passkey. Forgot password? also remains available.
Keep a backup way to sign in
Keep access to your password and account email. You can also add another passkey using a different device, password manager, or security key. Access across devices depends on where you save the passkey and your provider's sync settings.
Add a passkey
- Sign in to UptimeObserver.
- Go to Account → Security, or open Security directly.
- In the Passkeys section, click Add passkey.
- Enter a Passkey name, such as
Work laptop. Use 1–100 characters, including at least one character that is not a space. - Click Create passkey.
- Follow the browser or device prompt to choose where to save the passkey and confirm the request.
- Check that the passkey appears in the list. UptimeObserver displays Passkey added. You can now use it to sign in.
Prompts vary by device
On a Mac using Apple Passwords, you may see Save a passkey? and a Touch ID prompt. Other browsers, devices, password managers, and security keys may use different wording and verification methods.
Sign in with a passkey
Use a device, password manager, or security key that has access to a passkey you added to your account.
- Open the login page.
- Select Remember me if you want to stay signed in.
- Click Log in with a passkey.
- Follow the browser or device prompt to select your saved passkey and confirm the request. For example, Apple Passwords may ask you to use Touch ID.
UptimeObserver signs you in after verification.
Manage your passkeys
Open Account → Security. Each entry shows the passkey's name, Created date, and Last used date. If you have not signed in with it, the entry shows Not used yet.
Rename a passkey
- Click Rename next to the passkey.
- Update the Passkey name.
- Click Save and wait for Passkey renamed.
Renaming changes the label in UptimeObserver, not where you saved the passkey.
Remove a passkey
- Click Remove next to the passkey.
- Read the confirmation, then confirm removal.
- Check that the passkey disappears from the list. UptimeObserver displays Passkey removed. You can no longer sign in with that passkey.
You can still use another registered passkey. Password login remains available even if you remove your last passkey.
Removing a passkey does not delete it from your password manager
To delete the saved entry from your device or password manager, remove it there separately. Likewise, deleting the saved entry alone does not remove its listing in UptimeObserver.
If you lose access to a passkey
- Sign in with another registered passkey, or use your email and password.
- If you forgot your password, select Forgot password? on the login page and follow the password-reset instructions sent to your account email.
- Once signed in, open Account → Security, remove the passkey you can no longer use, and add a replacement if needed.
If you cannot sign in or access your account email, contact support@uptimeobserver.com. Never send your password to support.
Troubleshooting
Passkeys are unavailable or the button is disabled
If the app says Passkeys are not available in this browser or on this connection, check passkey browser compatibility. Support also depends on your operating system and password manager. You can use password login while you check compatibility.
The request was cancelled, timed out, or expired
Check that your device, password manager, or security key is available. Click Create passkey or Log in with a passkey again, then complete the browser prompt before it expires.
A passkey is already saved in this authenticator
The selected device, password manager, or security key already has a passkey for this account. Use that passkey to sign in, or choose a different place to save a new one.
Your passkey is not offered when signing in
- Use the device, password manager, or security key where you saved the passkey.
- Check that the passkey belongs to the account you want to access.
- If you rely on password-manager sync, check your provider's settings.
- Sign in with your password to review registered passkeys under Account → Security.
Passkeys could not be used on this site
Try signing in at app.uptimeobserver.com. If the error continues, use password login and contact support with the page URL and error message. Do not send passwords or other sign-in secrets.
The passkey list could not load
Click Retry in the Passkeys section. If a refresh fails, the list may show old data. Wait for the list to refresh before making changes.
