Prerequisites
Before setting up this integration, you'll need:
- An active Free Mobile subscription in France
- Access to your Free Mobile account at mobile.free.fr
- SMS notifications enabled on your Free Mobile account
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1: Enable SMS Notifications in Your Free Mobile Account
- Log in to your Free Mobile account at https://mobile.free.fr/.
- In your account dashboard, find the Mes options under Mon forfait mobile section.
- Look for Notifications par SMS.
- Make sure Notifications par SMS is checked/enabled.
- Write down or copy your API Key (Clé API), as you'll need it in the next step.
Keep Your API Key Secure
Your API Key allows sending SMS to your phone. Don't share it publicly or commit it to version control.
Step 2: Set Up Free Mobile SMS Notifications in UptimeObserver
- Log in to your UptimeObserver account.
- Navigate to Integrations then Free Mobile.
- Click on the Add Account button.
- Fill in the required fields:
- Account ID: Your Free Mobile Identifiant (found on your Free Mobile dashboard)
- Key: Your API key (Clé API) from Step 1
Step 3: Test the Integration
- After saving, go back to the Free Mobile Integration page.
- Look for the Test Button 🧪 next to your configuration.
- Click the test button—if everything is set correctly, you should receive an SMS within a few seconds.
Enabling Alerts on Monitors
After you have successfully integrated Free Mobile with your UptimeObserver account, you must manually assign which monitors should send SMS alerts.
- Navigate to Monitors: From your dashboard, click on the specific monitor you wish to configure to enter its Monitor Detail page.
- Add Alert: Find the alerting section and click the Add Alert button.
- Select Alert Type: In the Alert Type dropdown menu, select Free Mobile.
- Choose the Event: Pick the relevant trigger from the Event dropdown (e.g., Monitor Down, Monitor Up).
- Save Changes: Click the Save Changes button to activate the alert.
Recommendation
We recommend setting up alerts for both "Down" and "Up" events. This ensures you're notified immediately when an issue starts and when it has been resolved.
Troubleshooting
If you are having trouble receiving alerts or setting up the integration, check the common solutions below.
1. Test Button Failed or No SMS Received
If clicking the test button doesn't send an SMS:
- Check your Account ID: Ensure you entered your Free Mobile Identifiant correctly (it's usually an 8-digit number)
- Verify the API Key: Double-check that you copied the entire API key without extra spaces
- SMS notifications enabled: Go back to your Free Mobile account and confirm Notifications par SMS is enabled
- API Key regenerated: If you recently changed your API Key in Free Mobile, update it in UptimeObserver
2. Invalid Account ID or API Key Error
If you receive an error about invalid credentials:
- Account ID format: The Account ID should be numeric only—no letters or special characters
- API Key format: The API Key is a long alphanumeric string—ensure you copied it completely
- No extra spaces: Check for accidental spaces at the beginning or end of either field
- Re-copy credentials: Go back to Free Mobile, copy both values fresh, and re-enter them
3. SMS Not Received During Incidents
If the test works but you don't receive alerts during real incidents:
- Alert not added to monitor: Verify Free Mobile is added as an alert on the specific monitor. Go to Monitor Detail → Alerts
- Event selection: Ensure you selected the correct event (e.g., "Monitor Down")
- Phone reception: Check that your phone has cellular reception and isn't in airplane mode
- SMS inbox full: Some phones stop receiving SMS when the inbox is full—delete old messages
4. Delayed SMS Notifications
If SMS alerts arrive late:
- Network conditions: SMS delivery times can vary based on carrier load and network conditions
- Free Mobile infrastructure: Occasional delays can occur on Free Mobile's side during high-traffic periods
- Check phone settings: Ensure your phone isn't blocking or filtering messages from unknown senders
5. SMS Limit Reached
Free Mobile's notification API may have usage limits:
- Daily limits: There may be a maximum number of SMS notifications per day
- Rate limiting: Sending too many requests in a short time may cause temporary blocks
- Check Free Mobile documentation: Review any terms or limits in your Free Mobile account
6. How to Reset the Integration
If all else fails, try a fresh start:
- Go to UptimeObserver → Integrations → Free Mobile
- Delete the existing Free Mobile configuration
- In your Free Mobile account, consider regenerating your API Key
- Follow the Step-by-Step Guide to set up the integration again
How to Uninstall
In UptimeObserver:
- Go to UptimeObserver and log in to your account.
- Navigate to the Integrations section from your dashboard.
- Select Free Mobile from the list.
- Click the delete button next to your configuration.
In Free Mobile:
No action is required in Free Mobile—removing the integration from UptimeObserver stops all notifications. However, you can optionally disable Notifications par SMS in your Free Mobile account if you no longer need it.
